Grief is a profound experience and a very personal journey. In 2020 the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria will celebrate its 175th anniversary. In preparation for this significant event major restoration work has begun.
The Diocese of St. Catharines is asking for donations to assist with this project to ensure that the cathedral, the mother church of the diocese, will be a place of beauty and worship for our entire diocese for many years to come. More information can be found at the diocesan website here: http://www.saintcd.com/appeal May is a traditional time for particular devotion to Mary.
From the Catholic Women's League of St. Patrick's: For the month of May the C.W.L. will again be praying the Rosary in the hall at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings except for May 22nd. From the Knights of Columbus (Hennepin Council): During the month of May, the Knights of Columbus, Council 1652, will be conducting the Living Rosary every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in their downstairs lounge at 6101 North Street, Niagara Falls. This year, we'll be using the “Scriptural Rosary” version which features a story line after each rosary prayer. Everyone is welcome; please come and join us. Coffee and light refreshments will follow the Rosary prayers. The rosary is prayed before the 8:00 a.m. weekday Mass, Monday to Friday, at 7:30 a.m. May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance". The quotation is from Mense Maio, a 1965 encyclical of Pope Paul VI on prayers during May for preservation of peace - an end to war, terrorism and other forms of violence, through justice and development, being a particular need for which prayers should be directed to God through the intercession of Mary. |
