Feeling heard and understood is essential as the Church works to build a culture of encounter. Empathetic listening demonstrates a particular kind of attention and care for others. It is needed to form strong, caring relationships at home, at work, and in the community, especially within our parishes. A good listener asks quality questions and engages in conversations that invite deeper reflection. Sacred listening persists at recognising ‘God in the other’ and holds within it the potential for helping, healing, and personal transformation.
